ABM-utvikling
The Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority (ABM-utvikling) is a public institution under the authority of the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, but it also works across departmental and other administrative boundaries.
The majority of sources of knowledge and information extend across archives, libraries and museums and include art, sound, photography, film, archival materials and literature. Furthermore, the common interests of the three constituent sectors have been strengthened by the use of information and communication technology (ICT). ICT provides simplified access to different types of sources, also across the traditional sector boundaries.
These factors have been the main reason for the establishment of the Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority in 2003.

Our main goal is to strengthen the role of archives, libraries and museums as participants in the society.
Priorities for the period 2010-2014 are:
• Meeting places for the mediation of knowledge and culture:
The public shall encounter vitalized communication with challenging dialogues in physical and digital space.
• Digital services and digital content:
Users shall have simple access to digital content and good digital services from all the archives/library institutions.
• Research, education and lifelong learning:
Archives, libraries and museums shall be reinforced as arenas for and contributors to research, education and lifelong learning.
• Prioritising, administration, and securing of collections:
Physical and digital collections shall be administered based on professional guidelines for organisation and securing, with clear prioritising, based on cooperation and work-sharing between institutions.
• Institutions and network building:
Archives, libraries and museums shall be strong, professional institutions in the cooperative network. The ALM sector shall have an active international involvement.
Key numbers:
• At the end of 2008 The Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority had 70 employees.
• The Authority's budget for current expenses, projects and development initiatives amounted to 23,5 million Euro in 2008.
